NOTE: Since the elves have not encountered any Fierce Ones during the last three years when the tribal assignments were in place, the tribe will return to its normal pre-FO life starting at the end of 2514.03.

Human Language Team 2514

Word-hunter teams each consist of four elves with either One-Leg or Moss as team leaders. Their tasks include observing the actions of the local humans and continuing to try to learn their language. It is expected that there will be two elves available for watching the humans from a safe vantage, and two elves available to forage and hunt for food, as the elves and their wolves cannot carry enough provisions to last them a full tour. They are gone for periods of time ranging from 8 days to 3-4 weeks, all year long.

Travel Time to Ramat Colony

The human village is approximately 95 miles/152.8 km from the Holt; travel times will range from 3.5 days (mostly riding) to 4.75 days (walking).

Assigned Tribe Members

  • One-Leg (team leader)
  • Moss (team leader)
  • Rainpace
  • Beetle
  • Foxtail
  • Notch
  • Evervale

Schedule

  • Tour #0: 2513.12.19 through 2514.01.16: One-Leg, Foxtail, Rainpace, Notch
  • Tour #1: 2514.01.20 through 2514.02.22: Moss, Beetle, Evervale, Foxtail
  • Tour #2: 2514.02.30 through 2514.03.18: One-Leg, Evervale, Notch, Beetle
  • Tour #3: 2514.03.25 through 2514.04.18: Moss, Rainpace, Foxtail, Notch

After 2514.04.18 the word-hunters return to the schedule they had before the Fierce Ones' arrival, meaning the tours will be more irregular, without Moss and One-Leg necessarily being the leader of the individual teams. However, the minimum number of 4 elves per team will be maintained.

Long-Range Patrol 2514

During the spring, summer and autumn months, long range patrols have been increased to consist of 2 scouts (regularly Farscout + rotating partner). After the first snowfall, however, patrols are doubled to watch out for signs of the Fierce Ones who probably return each year for hunting. Two parties, each of two scouts, are sent out with an approximate two-and-a-half week overlap. Each party is gone for approximately 4 to 6 weeks at a time.

Assigned Tribe Members

  • Farscout (primary)
  • Pathmark
  • Blacksnake
  • Brightwood
  • 1 preserver per team

Schedule

  • Tour #0: 2513.12.10 through 2514.01.24: Farscout + Blacksnake
  • Tour #1: 2514.01.08 through 2514.02.16: Pathmark + Brightwood
  • Tour #2: 2514.01.30 through 2514.03.13: Farscout + Blacksnake
  • Tour #3: 2514.02.24 through 2514.03.30: Pathmark + Brightwood

After 2514.03.30, long-range scouting will still take place but will return to a less strict schedule, with less regularity and fewer tours done by only one of the tribe’s scouts.

Bluestone Cave Preparations 2514

Discontinued. From 2511-2513 the elves have made Bluestone Cave ready as an emergency evacuation site. During the course of those three years the shapers have managed to build enough dens and storage caves that are filled with sufficient amounts of tools and supplies.

Spring/Summer/Autumn Watch Posts 2514

Discontinued.

Winter Watch Posts 2514

With first snowfall, watch posts are set at Cascade Hill, Northview Ridge, and Crow’s Ridge to look out for Fierce Ones. The posts are manned by teams of two, who are rotated out every 8 days. They keep watch during day times and hunt/forage during night times.

Travel Times to Watch Posts

  • Northview Ridge: 17 miles/27.4 km from the Holt, walking time approx. 5 hr 40 min/ riding time 2 hr 50 min
  • Cascade Hill: 12 miles/19.3 km from the Holt, walking time is approx. 4 hr/riding time 2 hr
  • Crow’s Ridge: 13 miles/20.9 km from the Holt; walking time is approx. 4 hours 20 minutes/riding time is approximately 2 hours 10 minutes.

Discontinued in 2514.04.

Communication System 2514

The gliders of the tribe will be playing a central role during this period of time as the chief’s mobile communications specialists. They will be making regular rounds up to Windy Ridge in order to communicate with the team at Bluestone Cave, as well as out beyond the thornwall to ensure regular communications with the word-hunter team and the long-range scouts.

Assigned Tribe Member(s)

  • Fadestar

Schedule

Not strictly determined. Fadestar will be at Windy Ridge to communicate with her tribe members at Bluestone Cave at least twice a year. Frequency of rounds into sending distance of the long range scouting parties are increased between late Autumn and early Spring.

  • ends on 2514.03.18

Of course, even after the task has been discontinued, the gliders of the tribe will still be useful to stay in contact with the word hunters and long range scouts from time to time.
